Damage is white spot at tip of finger

When I bought the car a few months ago, this wasn’t there. I gave it a good washing, and clay bar, and wax, and it looked great. So I bought a car cover and then this shows up. What am I looking at? How do I fix it? Anyone have a similar scenario ever?

I’ve heard that water can get trapped between the cover and paint which over a long period of time is bad for the paint.

Doesn't wipe off, though

Had the same thing happen to my Z06 during winter storage , the “splotch” went away after a while but I did get some unexpected clear coat damage.

What is the cover like? Is it a heavy-duty outdoor cover, or an indoor dust cover? The former is more likely to damage the paint, especially if it’s dusty. Even the latter must be clean, and not moved  too frequently.

OEM/factory finish or respray/repair?

Thats what I'm afraid of. It was supposed to be water proof

I have a “waterproof” cover on my truck most of the year. It still gets through over time.

The only waterproof cover is a garage I’m afraid.

Many covers, especially used outside can get moisture trapped under it or have moisture work it’s way up underneath and over time where the cover is in contact with the paint for an extended length of time can cause localised and bad scenario extensive damage to and under the paint.

Try a good polish or fine compound, if no joy then maybe looking at a localised respray or smart repair.

Humidity doesn’t know the meaning of waterproof.

I live just outside the DC beltway. This is probably the issue

I used to live in Herndon so I know exactly what you’re talking about.

Vienna. Not as bad as new Orleans, but worse than anywhere else.

what kind of car? Year? Respray? Knowing what material was used could be beneficial. Experience tells me that looks like the beginning stages of delamination.

take a look inside the jamb for tape lines/overspray.

What exactly happens here? Does hard water eat away the paint chemically , or does condensation move dust particles around and scratch it?
